What is trip switch?

A trip switch, also known as a circuit breaker or a residual current device (RCD), is a safety device used in electrical installations to protect against electrical faults and prevent electrical fires.

The trip switch works by monitoring the flow of electricity in a circuit. If there is a fault, such as an overload or a short circuit, the trip switch will automatically cut off the power supply to the circuit to prevent damage to the electrical system and reduce the risk of electric shock.

There are different types of trip switches available, including miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) and residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs). MCBs are used to protect against overcurrents, while RCCBs are designed to detect small leakage currents to earth that could indicate a fault.

It is important to regularly test your trip switches to ensure they are working correctly and providing the necessary protection. If you experience any issues with your trip switch, it is advisable to contact a qualified electrician to inspect and repair the fault.
